Perfect makeup starts with  “a perfect foundation”. Just like artists apply a base coat on their canvas before painting, so the foundation serves as a base coat for a makeup artist. It makes the skin look smoother and clearer and even out uneven skin tone. The well-applied foundation should be undetectable.

If the skin is oily, you can use a foundation slightly lighter than the skin shade as the foundation turns darker with time as the oil causes oxidation. When using a thick concealer as foundation, remember to set the powder to avoid creasing, smudging and cracking into lines. Make sure the color evens out.

To keep foundation looking fresh and natural, use a light dusting of neutral or light-colored powder using a brush or puff to set the foundation. In this article, BEBE AFRIKANA presents to you the different types of foundation you can choose from.

Tinted Moisturisers: These are a cross between moisturiser and a foundation, as they will soothe your skin while giving a little coverage. They are ideal for young or clear skins. They are also great in the summer when you want a sheer effect or to even out a fading tan. Unlike other foundations, you can blend tinted moisturiser on your fingertips.

Liquid Foundation:  These are the most popular and versatile of all foundation types because they smooth on easily and offer-natural looking coverage. They suit all but the driest skins. They are usually water-based and easily spread into the skin using a sponge or fingertips to give a lightweight coverage. For oily skin, oil-free foundations are recommended while moisturizing foundations are recommended for dry and normal skin types. It is advisable to use foundations that contain a sunscreen and provide protection against the sun’s ultraviolet ray which is harmful.

Cream Foundation: These are thick, rich and moisturising, making them ideal for dry or mature skins. As they have a fairly heavy texture, make sure you blend them well into your skin with a damp cosmetic sponge.

Mousse Foundation: Again these are quite moisturising and ideal for drier skins. The best way is to dab a little of the product on to the back of your hand, then dot on to your skin with a sponge.

Compact Foundation: These are all-in-one formulations, which already contain powder. They come in a compact, usually with their own sponge for application. However, they actually give a lighter finish that you would expect. They are great on all but dry skin types.

Stick Foundation: These are the original foundation. They have a heavy texture, and so are best confined for use on badly blemished or scarred skin. Dot a little foundation directly on the affected area, then blend gently with a damp sponge.
