SLEEPY ‘SITZ’ BATH
The combination of hot and cold temperature is an effective way of helping you et to sleep. Try a ‘sitz’ bath, which helps you relax by drawing energy away from your head and stopping your mind from racing.
Here’s how to create your own ‘sitz’ bath:
- Ensure the bathroom is warm, then run approximately 7.5-10cm (3-4 inches) of cold water into the bath.
- Wrap the top half of your body in a warm water or towel, then immerse your hips and bottom in the cold water for 30 seconds.
- Get out of the bath, pat yourself dry, then climb into bed and fall asleep.
LEARNING TO RELAX
Turn bath time into an aromatherapy treat by adding relaxing essential oils such as chamomile and lavender to water. Just add a few drops once you have run the bath and then lie back, inhale the vapours and relax completely. Salts and bubble baths that contain sea minerals and kelp also have a relaxing effect, and purify your skin too. Bathing by candlelight and listening to calming music will make it even more of a treat. Put on soothing eye pads and relax for 10 minutes.
